We’ve updated I Write Like with the following new features and bug fixes.

Decliché and Active voice

Edit with AI tool received two new buttons for the Rewriting section: Decliché and Active voice.

Decliché replaces clichés in your text with better phrases.

Active voice rewrites sentences with passive voice to active voice.

Chrome’s experimental AI

I Write Like’s Edit with AI feature can use OpenAI or Gemini API or a custom AI, including local models. However, this requires setup (having an API key or running a local server).

Google recently embedded Gemini Nano into test builds of Chrome to allow developers to experiment with local AI. If the experiment goes well, we’ll see local LLMs in browsers, which is exciting!

The new I Write Like added support for this feature. If you have a desktop version of Chrome Canary and follow the steps to enable flags, you can use it by selecting “Local” in the model selector.

Note that this API is experimental and may be removed in the future. Additionally, it sometimes fails to respond or takes too long to respond. Nevertheless, we’re excited to see this development and hope that this API will become standardized and browsers will ship it.
