We’re excited to announce a significant update to IWL that brings several new features and improvements to many tools to enhance your writing experience.

New Highlight tool

We’ve introduced a tool that automatically highlights parts of speech (like nouns, verbs, and adjectives) and common style issues (clichés, filler words, and redundancies) as you type. It’s useful for making your writing clearer, reviewing sentence structure, and improving overall writing quality. You can toggle each option on and off as needed depending on your workflow.

For example, if you want to spot all the adverbs, enable adverb highlighting, and they will appear in a different color.

Improved goal progress indication

The mini word count now also serves as a goal progress bar, giving you a clear visual indication of your progress without being too distracting. We’ve also made small adjustments to the Word count tool’s layout and design for improved usability.

The Style analyzer now displays a short author biography. Click “More…” to learn additional details about the author’s writing style.

Markdown Preview enhancements

The Markdown preview tool now includes Copy and Share buttons – no more manually copying text from the preview. You can easily share your Markdown content with a single click.

We also fixed an issue where internal links were not handled correctly when copying text from the preview in some browsers.

What’s New Panel

To let you know about the latest features and improvements, we’ve added a “What’s New” tool to the app. This tool provides a brief summary of new features from this blog when we have updates. You can disable it in Settings if you prefer not to see it.

Other Changes

  • Dictionary: Redesigned dictionary selection to clearly separate online dictionaries.
  • Sentence rank: Repeated sentences are ignored to reduce noise in the ranking.
  • Export: HTML exports can now be shared directly without exporting to the file first.
  • Editor shortcuts: Alt-Enter (or Option-Return) now creates a new paragraph by inserting two newlines.
